SafeKey FIDO Bridge is a credential provider that lets you use FIDO2 security keys for passkey authentication on Android via NFC.
Android natively supports FIDO2 security keys over NFC, but its implementation can cause compatibility issues with some authenticators due to its use of extended APDU commands. Android also provides no native way to manage a security key's PIN or the passkeys stored on it. SafeKey FIDO Bridge addresses these limitations by communicating directly with the security key using standard APDU commands, avoiding the extended APDU compatibility issues in Android's native implementation.
Install the app, enable it as a passkey provider in your phone's settings, and use your security key anywhere Android's Credential Manager is supported.
SafeKey FIDO Bridge provides the following features:
- PIN management – set or change the PIN used to protect passkeys on your security key
- Full passkey management – view, create, and delete passkeys stored on your security key
- USB-C and NFC support – manage your security key's PIN and passkeys using either connection
- Passkey authentication over NFC – sign in using passkeys on security keys that aren't compatible with Android's native NFC implementation
Requires Android 14+ and a FIDO2-compatible security key or smartcard.
