To use a fingerprint reader or scanner with DualShield Windows logon, the fingerprint reader or scanner must support the Windows Biometric Framework (WBF).  Depending on the OS version and the maker/model of the reader, you might have to install its WBF driver manually. You can check in the Windows Device Manager:
